We are pleased to report to you that on December 5, 2009, Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School received full accreditation from the American Bar Association. This milestone was reached with the vision of Dr. Michael C. Markovitz, whose support for the law school’s mission allowed us to reach this stage in our long and rich history. Former deans Robert D’Agostino and the late John Ryan steered the school through sometimes difficult and often exciting times in the rebuilding of the school.

Under the able leadership of Dean Richardson Lynn, the school continues on its historic path, remaining faithful to its 76-year mission while looking to the future with innovation, new programs, and excellent teaching. Dean Lynn is committed to keeping classes small and accepting only the most qualified applicants.

The 36-member Faculty has breathed life into our curriculum with consistently superb teaching. Unlike most law professors who either write or teach, John Marshall professors do both and do them very well.

Finally, our students’ success on the bar exam has proven to the outside world that a John Marshall legal education makes a real difference.

A few of the exciting things happening at John Marshall include:

John Marshall’s Pro Bono and Externship Program demonstrates the school’s commitment to developing lawyers with a strong social conscience by exposing students to the fundamental values of the legal profession and a lawyer’s responsibility to uphold those values. The Micronesian Externship Program is in its third year and provides students with the opportunity to gain real world practice while experiencing a different culture.

The mock trial and moot court competition teams are achieving ever-increasing success against the best known law schools in the country.

Each Fall, the law school sponsors the Fred Gray Social Justice Seminar, which honors the legendary civil rights attorney by presenting an award in his name, most recently to The Georgia Innocence Project.

Each Spring, the law school hosts the Bobby Lee Cook Practical Legal Symposium, which provides the opportunity for our students and the wider legal community to hear veteran attorneys speak to their experiences with advocacy and professionalism.

The Career Development Office is committed to providing our students and alumni with the very best in professional development, tailoring the programs to guide, support and ensure that each of our students and alumni have every opportunity to pursue and reach their career goals.

As the law school builds momentum, we look forward to the opportunity to serve our alumni and have them take an active role in supporting the law school. With your help, we can continue to grow and provide numerous opportunities for the students.
