Students in Professor Emma Wylly’s Pretrial Practice & Procedure class got a practitioner’s view of civil litigation when Peter Diaz, a senior associate at King & Spalding, visited to present “Lifecycle of a Lawsuit: From Complaint to Judgment.”
Mr. Diaz’s practice focuses on breach of contract, class actions, data privacy, and antitrust. His presentation followed the process of a lawsuit through each major stage, beginning with the complaint and the defendant’s response, either a motion to dismiss or an answer. He then discussed discovery and its significance in a lawsuit, before covering summary judgment, trial, post-trial motions, and appeals.
Beyond his work at the firm, Mr. Diaz is committed to pro bono service, including litigation involving EBT and food stamp benefits.
