Criminal and Civil Justice Institute (CCJI) students at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS) Boz DelMundo, Kamryn Bunn, Erika Gomez, and Reina Brutomesso were recently featured in The Daily Report on Law.com for their work supporting a successful immigration bond hearing in partnership with Sanctuary of the South Managing Partner Katherine “Katie” Holloway Blankenship.
The four CCJI students helped develop the partnership with Sanctuary of the South after CCJI Faculty Director Professor Jonathan Rapping connected them with a client in need of legal assistance. Recognizing an opportunity to provide meaningful advocacy, the students reached out to Sanctuary of the South to collaborate on the immigration bond matter and support the client’s case.
Mr. DelMundo, Executive Legislative & Recent Case Summaries Editor for the John Marshall Law Journal, spoke with The Daily Report about the preparation, collaboration, and advocacy involved in the case. During the virtual bond hearing, Mr. DelMundo and Ms. Blankenship presented evidence that ultimately led to the client’s release, while fellow CCJI students Bunn, Gomez, and Brutomesso supported the broader case preparation and advocacy efforts.
Through the Criminal and Civil Justice Institute, CCJI students gain opportunities to participate in hands-on legal advocacy, collaborate with practicing attorneys, and apply their classroom knowledge to real-world matters. The work of these students reflects CCJI’s commitment to experiential learning and preparing students to make a meaningful impact through the practice of law.
