AJMLS Moot Court Teams Compete in Georgia Intrastate Competition

Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS) students competed in the Georgia Intrastate Moot Court Competition held April 9–10 at the Richard B. Russell Federal Courthouse in Atlanta, GA. The annual event, hosted by the Supreme Court of Georgia and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, brings together law students from across the state to test their appellate advocacy skills.

Representing AJMLS were two teams of students. The first team consisted of Cheyenne Elliott and Michael McMillan, coached by Aaron Ridenour. The second team consisted of MacKenzie Ellison, and Jacqueline Todd, coached by Charles Thomas Proenza. Their participation reflected weeks of focused preparation and a commitment to mastering complex legal issues.

The students spent their mid-semester break researching constitutional law, drafting a brief in the United States Supreme Court, and practicing oral arguments. Each team delivered strong performances while addressing a challenging Fourth Amendment issue involving geofence warrants, search and seizure, and the good faith exception.

The competition problem mirrored a real case now pending before the Supreme Court, Chatrie v. United States, scheduled for oral argument on April 27. Working through a dispute grounded in current litigation gave students a rare opportunity to engage with legal questions that courts are actively confronting. AJMLS recognizes these students for their outstanding effort and professional representation of the school.
