Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS) proudly recognizes Hon. Stephanie Thompson (’14) on her recent appointment as a Municipal Court Judge for Athens-Clarke County. This appointment marks another milestone in a distinguished career devoted to public service, leadership, and community advocacy.
Before her appointment, Judge Thompson served with distinction as Chief Assistant Solicitor General for Hall County, where she was known for her dedication and strong leadership. In 2024, she was appointed Acting Solicitor-General, a role that underscored her commitment to justice and public safety. Throughout her tenure in Hall County, Judge Thompson earned the Employee of the Year Award and took on critical leadership roles, including Chair of the Domestic Violence Task Force. She also served as a board member for the Children’s Center for Hope and Healing and participated in multiple Accountability Courts, exemplifying a holistic approach to law enforcement and restorative justice.
A native of Georgia, Thompson’s dedication to service began while she was still a student. While attending AJMLS, she interned at the Gwinnett County Solicitor’s Office, gaining invaluable real-world experience. Upon earning her J.D. and passing the Georgia Bar, she immediately embarked on her career as an Assistant Solicitor General in Hall County. Over the years, she has become a respected mentor to young attorneys, committed to fostering the next generation of legal professionals. Thompson has made it a personal mission to teach her mentees not only legal skills but also the importance of empathy, integrity, and professionalism.
Reflecting on her time at AJMLS, Judge Thompson shared,
“My time at AJMLS instilled in me the values that have guided every step of my career. I graduated from AJMLS with more than just legal knowledge; I left with a purpose: to serve my community. The professors challenged me, the coursework prepared me, and the environment inspired me. Now, as a Municipal Court Judge for Athens-Clarke County, Judge Thompson brings her deep legal experience and compassionate approach to the bench.
