The New Georgia Project Endows Major Scholarship Fund at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School

The New Georgia Project (NGP) and Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS) share a deep commitment to cultivating a generation of lawyers who strengthen democracy, expand civic participation, and pursue justice with integrity and courage. To advance that shared mission, NGP has established the New Georgia Scholarship, an endowed initiative housed at AJMLS.

The New Georgia Scholarship will support law students who exemplify civic engagement, public service, and leadership rooted in community empowerment. Through this partnership, NGP and AJMLS will invest in the next generation of legal advocates who use their education to advance civic empowerment, expand access to justice, and ensure that Georgia’s democratic institutions serve all people equitably.

“The New Georgia Scholarship reflects our belief in the transformative power of legal advocacy to shape the future of this country and its people. The law, at its best, is a force for equity and progress, and its strength depends on those who practice it with integrity and compassion. Through this scholarship, we seek to invest in the next generation of advocates who will defend justice, expand opportunity, and carry forward the promise of a more just Georgia — and America.”

— Board of Directors, New Georgia Project

NGP will make a founding gift of $180,000 to establish the New Georgia Scholarship Endowment at AJMLS. $5,000 will be available in a spendable account to award the first New Georgia Scholarships in Spring 2026.

Under the law school’s established investment and stewardship policies, AJMLS will manage the endowment to ensure its long-term growth and sustainability. Each year, the fund will award five scholarships of $1,000 each to selected New Georgia Scholarship recipients. In addition, the endowment will support programmatic initiatives such as mentorship opportunities, civic-law workshops, and leadership roundtables that connect students with practitioners, policymakers, and community leaders who are advancing democracy in Georgia.

“We are honored by The New Georgia Project’s confidence in our students and our mission. Their generosity will open doors for aspiring attorneys who believe, as we do, that the practice of law is a powerful instrument for justice and civic good. This partnership will have a lasting impact on the communities our graduates go on to serve.”

— Dean and CEO Martin L. Ellin.

This transformational gift, the single largest AJMLS has received since becoming a nonprofit, underscores the strength of partnership between the law school and community organizations committed to social progress and equitable representation.

Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School has long stood as a vital institution in Georgia’s legal landscape. It provides access to legal education for both traditional and nontraditional students whose diverse experiences enrich the classroom and the profession. AJMLS graduates are known for being “real lawyers for real people”, serving their communities with heart, ethical clarity, and an unwavering commitment to justice. The New Georgia Scholarship continues that tradition, empowering students to use the law not just as a career path, but as a calling to serve others.
