Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS) extends heartfelt appreciation to Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP for graciously hosting Honoring the Vision of Dean Ellin, a special luncheon recognizing the leadership and vision of Dean Martin L. Ellin, Dean and CEO of AJMLS. The event celebrated his appointment and introduced his vision for a stronger, community-centered AJMLS to members of Atlanta’s legal and professional community.
The gathering featured remarks from 3L student Piaja Brooks, who delivered a moving introduction highlighting Dean Ellin’s lifelong dedication to access to justice and service to others. Dean Ellin then shared his reflections on the challenges and opportunities ahead, including the impact of the recent end of the GradPlus Program and the growing importance of scholarship support for AJMLS students. He also spoke about the school’s transformation into a nonprofit institution with a renewed focus on mission and student success.
Distinguished guests included Chairman Adam Malone, Alumni Association Board President Shilpa Jadwani, Judge Neera Bahl, Judge Ashley Drake, and Advisor to the Board of Directors Linda Klein, along with many of Dean Ellin’s colleagues, friends, and supporters. Attendees were introduced to the “new” AJMLS, a law school strengthened by collaboration, community engagement, and a clear purpose.
The afternoon also provided meaningful opportunities for connection and mentorship. 1L Shaquille Kokumo, an alumnus of the Atlanta Bar Association Summer Legal Internship Program (SLIP), connected with Wade Malone, Partner at Nelson Mullins and SLIP Co-Chair, exemplifying AJMLS’s commitment to fostering professional growth and expanding student access to the legal community.
This celebration reflected the deep respect and support shared across the legal profession for Dean Ellin’s leadership and for the future of AJMLS. The law school looks forward to continued partnership with Nelson Mullins and other community members as it advances its mission to educate and empower the next generation of legal advocates.
