Jada Mathis is a second-year student at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS) whose law school journey is grounded in purpose, faith, and a commitment to justice. What began as a desire to address inequities she witnessed growing up has evolved into a focused pursuit of advocacy for all communities.
“My decision to pursue a career in law stems from a deep commitment to helping marginalized and minority communities who are often overlooked or underserved by the justice system,” Jada shared. “Growing up aware of the disparities and inequities within the criminal justice process, I was inspired to be the change I wanted to see in the system.” That motivation has shaped her experience at AJMLS, where she has intentionally developed the knowledge and skills needed to challenge systemic injustice and promote meaningful reform.
One of Jada’s proudest accomplishments during law school came during her internship at the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, where she led her team to First Place in a Mock Trial Competition as lead trial attorney. The experience was the culmination of weeks of preparation, strategy, and growth. “I remember countless late nights strategizing, reviewing evidence, and practicing every objection and line of questioning until it felt second nature,” she said. “Standing in the courtroom and hearing our team’s name announced as the winner was exhilarating, but what made it truly meaningful was seeing how much I had grown as an advocate.”
During her time at the District Attorney’s Office, Jada gained extensive hands-on experience in felony prosecution. She authored and filed felony indictments, prepared pretrial motions and legal memoranda, and played a key role in trial preparation for high-profile cases that resulted in guilty verdicts. Certified under Georgia’s Student Practice Act, she worked closely with law enforcement, investigative teams, and prosecutors, sharpening her litigation skills while deepening her understanding of the justice system from the inside.
Before joining AJMLS, Jada earned her Bachelor of Criminal Justice from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, graduating magna cum laude. Her professional experience also includes work with the Northern Florida District Attorney’s Office and Rumberger Kirk & Caldwell P.A., where she supported attorneys through legal research, drafting, filings, and case management across both state and federal courts.
Beyond the courtroom, Jada’s faith and community continue to guide her path. “My faith has shaped my calling to serve others,” she explained. “I’ve seen how the justice system can sometimes harm the very people it is meant to protect, and that calling to be part of the solution has only grown stronger.”
At AJMLS, she credits her professors for challenging her to think critically and ethically, and her peers for providing support through the demands of law school. She also served as a Class Representative and a member of the Black Student Law Association (BLSA), reflecting her commitment to leadership and collaboration.
Jada Mathis’s experience at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School is one defined by growth, resilience, and intention. Guided by faith, strengthened by mentorship, and driven by a desire to create lasting change, she continues to build a foundation as a future attorney committed to justice, service, and meaningful impact.
