Career Highlights
Before joining AJMLS, Tanya McAdams practiced real estate law at a large Atlanta-based firm, where she managed the firm’s Northwest Georgia offices. She served as the region’s primary lecturer, teaching weekly classes to brokers, real estate agents, and attorneys on legal topics, including effective writing. She also trained new attorneys, equipping them for a career in residential real estate practice.
Earlier in her career, Professor McAdams practiced employment law, advocating for employees affected by workplace discrimination. During this time, she spent two years researching and co-authoring a study on dismissal rates for discrimination claims at the summary judgment stage. The study has been widely cited in law journals, books, amicus briefs, training manuals, and the media.
Professor McAdams served as a law clerk to the Honorable Linda T. Walker (retired) of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. During law school, she was a research assistant, one of the managing editors of the John Marshall Law Journal, and Valedictorian of her class.
Publications
Professor McAdams’s recent research examines whether law students can effectively use artificial intelligence (AI) as a study aid without jeopardizing the deep learning required for academic success in law school. Grounded in educational psychology, her work weighs AI’s potential to support personalized learning against the crucial need for students to develop independent reasoning and critical thinking beyond AI-assisted tasks.

Outside the Classroom
Professor McAdams serves on various committees at AJMLS, is a supporting faculty advisor to the Christian Legal Society, and she has assisted AJMLS moot court team members in preparation for various competitions each year. She has been a featured speaker for the Corporate and Business Law Society and is a content creator for the course Real Estate Closings & Title Law.
