Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS) proudly honors Veterans Day by recognizing the service and sacrifice of students, faculty, and staff who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces. This day serves as an opportunity for the AJMLS community to reflect on the dedication of those who have served our country and to express gratitude for their continued commitment to justice, leadership, and public service.
Among the current AJMLS student body, several have proudly served in various branches of the U.S. military. 55.6 percent of current students served in the U.S. Army, 11.1 percent in the U.S. Navy, 22.2 percent in the United States Air Force, and 11.1 percent in the United States Coast Guard.
The following AJMLS students have served honorably in the Armed Forces:
- Raul Alvizua – U.S. Navy, 6 Years of Service
- Steven Braun – United States Air Force, 13 Years of Service (Still in the Air Guard)
- Christopher Briasco – U.S. Army, 17 Years of Service
- Ryan Callahan – United States Coast Guard, 6 Years of Service

- Tyler McGrath – U.S. Army, 8 Years of Service

The years of service among these students reflect both longevity and dedication. These experiences bring unique perspectives to the classroom and contribute to the law school’s culture of discipline, resilience, and service to others.
Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School also recognizes members of its faculty and staff who are veterans. IT Director Harold Bieber served in the United States Marine Corps from 1986 to 1992 as a jet engine and flight line mechanic on F18 aircraft. During his service, Bieber completed two Western Pacific tours that took him to Japan, Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Professor Michael Mears, who teaches at AJMLS, is also a veteran. Mears served six years in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1967, including service during the Viet Nam War in 1965 and part of 1966. He is a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and continues to inspire students through his dedication to public service and advocacy.
Additionally, Corey Martin, Supervising Attorney for the Legal Veterans Assistance Program, served eight years in the U.S. Army. His ongoing work supporting veterans through legal aid underscores AJMLS’s commitment to serving those who have served our nation.
On Veterans Day and throughout the year, Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School expresses deep appreciation for the veterans among its students, faculty, and staff. Their courage, leadership, and commitment to service enrich the law school community and embody the values that AJMLS strives to uphold every day.
