Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (AJMLS) was honored to take part in the 2025 HBCU Pre Law Summit, held September 26 and 27 in Atlanta. The Summit is a national event that welcomes all students, alumni, and community members who are exploring the path to law school. It is designed to provide valuable insight into the admissions process and the legal profession, and it brings together law schools, attorneys, judges, pre-law advisors, and current law students who share guidance and mentorship with attendees.
The two day program offers a full schedule of keynote talks, panels, workshops, and a large Law Expo where participants can connect directly with dozens of law school representatives and legal organizations. Students also receive practical resources such as strategic planning materials, opportunities for advising, and spaces for meaningful professional networking. These activities give future law students a clearer understanding of what to expect as they prepare for the application process and for the academic demands of legal education.
As part of the Summit, attendees visited the AJMLS campus for a guided tour that highlighted classrooms, study spaces, and other campus features. The visit allowed students to learn more about the school’s culture, ask questions about academic programs and student life, and engage with members of the AJMLS community. Participants also explored additional law schools in the surrounding area to broaden their understanding of the options available to them.
AJMLS staff and students played an active role throughout the event as speakers, panelists, and advisors. Their involvement allowed prospective law students to hear firsthand experiences and receive tailored advice on preparing for success. Representatives from AJMLS included:
- Dean Martin L. Ellin, Guest Speaker
- Marc Reece, Director of Recruitment and Outreach, Panelist
- Piaja Brooks 3L, Panelist
- Melissa Harris 2L, Law Student Association Leader and Guest Speaker
- Taliyah Scruggs 1L, Pre-Law Advisor
