Students who own a laptop or other portable computer have the option to use their computer to access the Internet from within the facilities of Atlanta's John Marshall Law School. The JMLS Law Library has over 70 available network connections for students to use. These connections are located in the two Computer Labs, the common study areas, and in the private study rooms. Atlanta's John Marshall Law School also has a school-wide wireless network.

In order to ensure the reliability of the network and related services, and to provide for the security of all of our students who use the John Marshall Law School - Atlanta network, the following guidelines have been established:

Internet Access Requirements for Laptop Users

  • Students must have a network enabled computer. The school will not supply any networking hardware or cables.
  • Students wishing to access the Internet via the JMLS network, must have their computers inspected by a member of the JMLS IT staff. This inspection is mandatory. The inspection verifies that the user's computer poses no obvious security risks.
  • Students wishing to access the Internet via the JMLS network, must have an active and updated subscription to an antivirus application. Computers with outdated virus definitions and/or expired antivirus licenses will be denied Internet access. Any student failing to maintain an up-to-date antivirus subscription will have their Internet access privileges terminated.
  • Students are required to keep their computers up-to-date with all relevant security updates and program fixes. Most of these updates can be installed automatically.
  • Students wishing to access the public printers may be required to have a network client program installed on their computer. This installation must be performed by a member of the JMLS IT staff.
  • Students are not allowed to use the JMLS network/Internet connections for the sharing of or listening to music files and/or any other type of streaming media. Due to their inherent security risks, peer-to-peer (P2P) client software must be disabled at all times while connected to the JMLS network.
  • Internet access may be interrupted or suspended at any time for security and maintenance purposes.
  • Atlanta's John Marshall Law School reserves the right to inspect any student owned computer equipment that is, or has recently been connected to the school's network. This inspection is to ensure that requirements for Internet access are being observed.
  • Students who attempt to access the Internet through the JMLS network without meeting these requirements may be referred to the Dean's Office for disciplinary consideration.
