| Examination Guidelines for Laptop Users
Updated: 09/29/2008
Atlanta's John Marshall Law School students are offered the opportunity to take final
examinations on their own laptop computers. To preserve the integrity of the
examination process, the law school has secured Electronic Blue Book software
which blocks the use of all other computer applications while the user is
taking an examination. To use this examination option, students must comply with
the policies and procedures set forth below.
- Students must provide their own laptop computers.
- The laptop must
have either Microsoft Windows or Mac OS-X.
- For Windows XP and Vista, the student must have administrative
rights to the computer.
- The computer must have a wireless network adapter. Laptops without a wireless network adapter may not be used for exams.
- The laptop must be configured to access the JMLS wireless network.
- The laptop must have the Electronic Blue Book program installed prior to the begining of the exam.
- Prior to taking an exam, the student must run the Electronic Blue Book activation exam on their laptop to verify that the program operates properly.
- It is the student's responsibility to be familiar with the computer
they are using. This includes, but is not limited to: familiarity with
the hardware, basic computer knowledge, using the operating system,
and general typing/editing skills.
- At the end of the examination, the answer must be saved to the Exam Server.
- In the event of a network or server failure, exams will be retrieved by IT staff with a USB key.
- It is the student's responsibility to ensure that both their laptop
and the Electronic Blue Book software that has been installed are working properly.
If there is any technical error or malfunction during the administration
of the examination, the student will be provided with a blue book. No
printed answers will be accepted, i.e., any examination completed on
software other than the Electronic Blue Book software will not be accepted
- Students using laptop computers will take their examination in a separate
room from blue book users, and should report to the room scheduled for
"Typists."
