BAR ASSOCATION
The Student Bar Association (SBA) is the official student government association
of John Marshall Law School. The SBA was established to assist in the
promotion of legal science and the administration of justice, to further
the understanding between the public and the organized Bar, and to promote
the welfare of its members. All students are members of the SBA.
The Executive Board consists of four officers and six representatives,
including representatives from each class in each division.
The SBA provides a number of services and activities for students, including
the annual sponsorship of the Barristers Ball.
AMERICAN TRIAL LAWYERS ASSOCIATION
The John Marshall Law School chapter of the American Trial Lawyers Association
(ATLA) was founded in 1993. The ATLA, and its associate organization,
provide a structure for regional and national student trial advocacy competition.
BLACK LAW STUDENTS ASSOCIATION
The Black Law Students Association (BLSA) was established in October,
1992, to foster and encourage high academic standards and professional
competency for students pursuing a career in law. The mission of the BLSA
is to instill in the law student a greater awareness of the needs of the
African-American community, to influence the legal community to bring
about meaningful change to meet the needs of the African-American community,
and to do all that is necessary and proper to accomplish these purposes.
Membership in the BLSA is open to all students.
The BLSA is affiliated with the Southern Region Black Law Students Association,
and the National Black Law Students Association.
CHRISTIAN LEGAL SOCIETY
The purpose of the Christian Legal Society is to honor the Lord in law
school by associating publicly with a national network of more than 4,000
lawyers, judges, law professors, law students, and interested lay people
committed to loving and serving Jesus Christ and advocating reconciliation,
justice, and religious freedom.
CORPORATE LAW SOCIETY
The Corporate Law Society is focused on the corporate legal field, and
on enhancing its members' knowledge of the complexities of corporate law.
The society sponsors guest lectures, workshops, and various social functions.
FEDERALIST SOCIETY
John Marshall Law School hosts a chapter of The Federalist Society for
Law and Public Policy Studies. The Society is a group of conservatives
and libertarians interested in the current state of the legal order. It
is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom;
that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution;
and that it is emphatically the province and duty of our judiciary to
say what the law is, not what it should be. The Society seeks to promote
an awareness of these principles, and to further their application through
its activities. This entails reordering priorities within the legal system
to place a premium on individual liberty, traditional values, and the
rule of law.
INTERNATIONAL LAW SOCIETY
The International Law Society fosters interest in international law by
sponsoring speakers and programs concerning international law and international
organizations advocating on behalf of international law. The Society promotes
workshops furthering the study of international law as it pertains to
human rights, foreign trade, and immigration law. Also, the Society aids
its members in the pursuit of careers in this field of law. Membership
is open to all students.
SIGMA DELTA KAPPA - ALPHA CHI CHAPTER
Sigma Delta Kappa was established in 1914 by six law students at the University
of Michigan Law School, and serves as a national legal fraternity composed
of attorneys, judges, and law students. Sigma Delta Kappa is a non-discriminatory
and active legal fraternity, with membership open to all law students
and members of the bench and bar. There are no restrictions based upon
race, religion, or gender.
SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT LAW SOCIETY
The Sports and Entertainment Law Society (SELS) is dedicated to educating
members and providing a network in the sports and entertainment legal
field. The SELS sponsors workshops, speakers, and social functions for
its members.
WOMEN'S LAW STUDENT ASSOCIATION
The Women's Law Student Association (WLSA) is an organization open to
all students who are concerned with, and interested in, improving the
status of women in the legal profession.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The "new" John Marshall Law School welcomes the support of the
recently reorganized Alumni Association, a not-for-profit organization
dedicated to the serving the needs of alumni and achieving the goals of
the School.
The Alumni Association offers alumni opportunities to network and socialize
at the Georgia Bar and other functions. The directors are committed to
fundraising to support alumni activities and create an endowment fund
to provide scholarships for students and promote faculty research.
The continuing success of John Marshall depends largely on the support
of its graduates and alumni. The positive impression created by the improvements
in our curriculum, facility, faculty, and staff are resulting in a larger,
more competitive pool of applicants. In turn, the quality of our students
and graduates is attracting a greater number of prospective employers.
John Marshall’s alumni remain its most valuable resource in terms
of referring potential students and providing potential internships, clerkships,
and jobs for its graduates.
We encourage alumni to take a moment to revisit John Marshall through
our redesigned Web site and update their names, career and contact information
through the accompanying alumni link. By updating information online,
alumni may be copied on
Alumni Association emails. Additionally, alumni activities are promoted
through the bi-annual newsletter, The Advocate.
Alumni may participate in the Career Advisory Network by checking "yes"
on the UPDATE INFORMATION form. This network is a great opportunity to
rely upon fellow alumni for referrals and support, and to provide career
guidance and mentoring for our students. The Alumni Association invites
input, which may be conveniently directed to alumni_update.@.johnmarshall.edu.
