| Professor Marbes was in private practice for over 15 years before she joined the John Marshall Law School faculty in 2006. After graduating from Emory’s Law School in 1988, Professor Marbes began her legal career as an associate at Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP where her practice included general corporate, partnership, and finance matters. In 1990, Professor Marbes joined another top-tier Atlanta law firm where she worked for over 13 years, first as an associate and then as a partner, in the Financial Restructuring Group. During that time, Professor Marbes represented individual creditors, official committees, trustees, examiners, and debtors in federal bankruptcy cases in Delaware, Florida, Georgia, New York, Texas, and many other jurisdictions. Professor Marbes also counseled clients regarding the acquisition of businesses and assets from insolvent companies and intellectual property issues arising in bankruptcy. In addition, Professor Marbes represented non-profit organizations and other pro bono clients in consumer and business bankruptcy proceedings. During the over 15 years she practiced law, Professor Marbes presented numerous papers and spoke at seminars around the country on a variety of insolvency and business law issues. |
