Jonathan D. Goins, Esq. has practiced for over 10 years in the intellectual property transactional and litigation areas of trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets, with an industry focus in new media, technology, entertainment and sports. Jonathan has litigated cases involving Internet libel, rights of publicity, contractual disputes, misappropriation of trade secrets, and copyright and trademark infringement, including most recently obtaining a $616,000 award on summary judgment for a major luxury handbag designer regarding claims of trademark infringement.
Jonathan has negotiated multi-million dollar agreements with regard to ownership, indemnification, warranties, use and licensing of IP rights. He has a critical eye for IP issues in significant transactions, including preparing confidential non-disclosure agreements, non-solicitation and non-compete agreements, trade secrets’ policies, IP due diligence in mergers and acquisitions, copyright “works made for hire” agreements, and IP-related contractual provisions involving employees, consultants, vendors, joint ventures, technology, research and development, advertising sponsorships and promotional rights, global marketing campaigns, and major entertainment and sporting events. Clients have included over a dozen Fortune 500 companies; a reputable sports agency and NBA agent to well-known players with the Miami Heat; the rights and events’ holder of the world’s largest summer entertainment festival; a Donald Trump “Apprentice” finalist; an All-Pro Defensive Tackle for the New England Patriots; and two best-selling authors and media commentators featured on CNN, ESPN, FOX, HLN, the TODAY show and Dr. Oz.
Jonathan was recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer “Rising Star” for Intellectual Property, Entertainment & Sports in 2013, honored among the National Bar Association’s “40 Lawyers Under 40” in 2012 and the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Top 40 Under 40 Up & Comers in 2010. He was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Inez Smith Reid of the D.C. Court of Appeals, and is admitted to practice in Georgia, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
