Students are trained to identify client goals, to translate those business goals into contract concepts, and draft contractual provisions which meet the client's goals and limit the client's risks. Prerequisite: LWRA I & II. Satisfies upper level writing requirement. Limited to 22 students.

Recommended Materials:First Assignments:1. The required text is Tina L. Stark, Drafting Contracts: How and Why Lawyers Do What They Do. 2. The assignment for Week 1 will be: Read chapters 1, 2, 3 (pp. 19-24), 4 (pp. 25-29), 5, 10 and 11; read Cedar Point and Krukemeier cases (handouts will be posted to TWEN). 3. The first part of the class will consist of a course overview; overview of contract concepts; and overview of parts of contract. The second part of the class will consist of a lecture/discussion and an exercise on covenants and rights, followed by the beginning of a discussion of conditions. 4. This assignment is based upon my review of Professor Jeffries’ syllabus from Fall 2011. I understand the Stark book has a new edition, but I have not seen it yet. If it is significantly different than the previous edition, some page or chapter numbers may change before my syllabus is finalized. Nevertheless, the content of the lesson will remain the same. 5.
