GEORGIA’S REPORT CARD
February 24, 2010
Room 301
Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School
4.5 MCLE Hours
including
1 Professionalism Hour
The majority of Georgia’s children will spend 13 years in the state’s public school system. During this time, students and their guardians are exposed to a myriad of matters including educational quality, discipline and school choice. Likewise, school administrators and educators face these same issues and are concurrently responsible for enforcing a regime of rules created by individual schools, local education agencies and the state and national legislatures. The education law practitioner, as well as attorneys who practice in fields affected by education, are confronted frequently with legal issues arising in contexts ranging from school finance, charter schools, the state’s provision of an adequate education and Georgia’s juvenile justice system.
Each year, the John Marshall Law Journal addresses a Georgia-centric legal topic in its annual publication. Additionally, the Journal hosts a symposium that provides a public forum for discussion of crucial elements of the topic that deserve either elucidation or debate. This year, the Journal has chosen to focus its publication on the educational issues faced by Georgia’s parents, students, educators, school administrators, and education law practitioners. Organized into panel discussions on religion in schools, charter schools, the use of restraint and seclusion in schools, and school vouchers, the Journal’s Symposium on Education Law features some of Georgia’s most prominent participants in the education arena.
The Journal’s editorial staff is pleased to invite you to an informative event covering current topics critical to education law and policy. Practitioners, educators, policymakers, parents/guardians and education-related interest groups are all encouraged to attend. Members of the Georgia Bar will receive 4.5 MCLE hours, including 1 professionalism hour for attending the Symposium.
