Dean Lynn Presents in John Marshall’s New Lecture Series @ Blackburn Conference Center
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

The government uses Facebook to spy on you.  The skies will be full of police department drones sending your photo to computers with facial recognition software.  Your car’s license plate will be scanned constantly by sensors on patrol cars.  You are filmed by cameras in public places and private businesses dozens of times each day.  The government has access to every email you’ve sent, every word you’ve tweeted, and everything you’ve bought online. What happened to your privacy?  Is it too late to get it back?  Does the U.S. Constitution actually protect privacy? The Dean of Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, Richardson Lynn, will present his research and conclusions on this important topic.

The lecture, titled American’s Shrinking Right of Privacy -”Electronic surveillance, data mining, social media, and the Constitution”, will be held from noon to 1 p.m., on January 25, 2013 at the law school’s Blackburn Conference Center located directly across from the school. This will be the first event in the law school’s new monthly lecture series presented by its faculty.

This event is free of cost and open to the public as well as the John Marshall community. For more information, contact the main office at (404) 872-3593 or email Katherine Dreyer at kdreyer@johnmarshall.edu. To RSVP, please fill out the form below.

Feb 4 Mon
MANDATORY Kaplan Assessment Testing for Part-time 2L Students @ Room 709
6:15 pm – 10:15 pm

This is another reminder that our Kaplan Assessment Testing for part-time 2L students will be held from 6:15 p.m. to 10:15 p.m., on Monday, February 4, 2013, in Room 709.  As you know, this is a mandatory assessment for all 2L part-time students. PLEASE BRING YOUR LAPTOPS for the written portion of the assessment. Pencils will be provided.

If you are in Professor Cantley’s Property II class, not to worry, as he is aware of this testing and will NOT have class on this day.

The purpose of this testing is two-fold: 1) To provide you a personalized assessment of your strengths and weaknesses; and, 2) To provide our school with invaluable metrics, that will help inform and mold our effort in improving the quality of our education and your preparation for the bar exam.  It is a very integral part of the educational process, in that it provides us feedback prior to the bar exam, concerning your progress, our areas of strength, and our areas of weakness.  Please take it serious.  In addition, it also provides a rare opportunity to start training your mind and body to perform under bar exam conditions.

Given that this is scheduled during the evening and is exclusively for part-time students, I do expect ALL 2L part-time students to attend this testing.  Please reserve requesting an exception to this policy for only the most exceptional of circumstances.  If you do have an exceptional circumstance that prevents you from attending, please make a written request to Dean Cieply, with supporting documentation, as soon as practicable.  Students who do not complete the testing as scheduled, or under an approved exception, will receive an administrative hold, and will not be able to register for summer classes.

Feb 22 Fri
Sixth Annual Fred Gray Seminar Hosted by Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School @ Atlanta's John Marshall Law School
1:00 pm – 3:30 pm

Every year Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School hosts its Fred Gray Social Justice Seminar in honor of the legal legacy of veteran civil rights attorney Fred Gray. Each seminar tackles pressing and current legal issues attorneys and practitioners face. This year the theme is “Conquering Growing Issues: Women Rising in the Face of Adversities”.

The 6th Annual Fred Gray Social Justice Seminar will take place from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., on Friday, February 22, 2013 at the law school’s Blackburn Conference Center located at 1405 Spring St. Atlanta, GA 30309. The seminar will include a panel discussion on several epic issues affecting women. In furtherance of this year’s theme, panelists will address the following topics:  1) immigrant women who are the victims of domestic violence, 2) breaking the cycle of drug addiction for women, 3) the abusive practice of shackling pregnant women in prison, and 4) the increase in teen dating violence against young girls.

Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School will also present this year’s Fred Gray Social Justice Award to Catholic Charities of Atlanta (CCA). CCA is an advocate and friend for individuals and families facing adversity.  They provide a holistic combination of accredited social services − life skills education, counseling, family stabilization, and immigration legal services − that remove barriers to self-sufficiency and wholeness.

For more information on this event, visit the News & Events section of the John Marshall website at www.johnmarshall.edu or call Professor Patrice Fulcher at (404) 872-3593.
