Professor Karsai to be Inaugural Presenter at the 2014 AJMLS Scholarship Presentation Program @ Blackburn Conference Center
Sep 17 @ 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Please join the law school in its first scholarship presentation of the academic year as Professor Liza Karsai speaks to faculty, students, and prospective students.  The lecture will be held in the Seminar Room of the law school’s Blackburn Conference Center at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. This event also signifies Professor Karsai’s return to Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School since her departure for the University of Edinburgh in England to earn her LL.M. degree.

Professor Karsai has graciously agreed to be our inaugural presenter for the 2014-2015 season. Having spent an entire year at the University of Edinburgh, she is going to take us with her on a journey through that experience — much of which was spent in one of the greatest archives of common-law legal history in the world. For this presentation, Professor Karsai will discuss the allure, methodology, and challenges of archival research. Although the presentation will focus on the experience of conducting historical research – and the serendipity of historical discoveries — attention also will be given to the substantive legal research.

More about Professor Karsai

Professor Karsai was promoted to the tenured faculty at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in 2013; was selected as the John Marshall inaugural Formal Faculty Exchange Scholar with Georgia State University College of Law in Fall 2012; and her thesis advisor was the world-renowned Professor John Cairns who has mentored some of the most successful LL.M. and Ph.D. diplomats of our age.  Professor Cairns was so impressed by Professor Karsai’s intellect, energy, meticulousness, and creativity that he has encouraged her to pursue Ph.D. studies at Oxford, Cambridge, or Edinburgh.

This event is open to the entire AJMLS community. We look forward to seeing you there. Please contact Sharon Johnson with any questions regarding the event.

John Marshall Hosts the ABA Law Student Division Fall Leadership Summit @ Atlanta's John Marshall Law School
Oct 10 – Oct 11 all-day

Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School has been selected as the host school for the American Bar Association Law Student Division Fall 2014 Leadership Summit. The law school will be hosting students from across the 4th, 6th, and 10th Circuits, in addition to its own. Law schools in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, North/South Carolina, Ohio, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Virginia (except George Mason University), and West Virginia will be in attendance. The summit will take place October 10th and 11th. The event and registration are FREE. Please log on to the ABA website to register.

Why should I care?
Over the summer, circuit leaders addressed two major concerns of current and past law school students.
1. Being able to receive compensation and class credit for externships, internships, etc.
2. The possibility of being able to sit for the bar exam during your last semester (6-9 hours) of law school.

Why should I attend?
You should plan to attend the Leadership Summit because, this is your FREE opportunity to:
1. Jump-start your professional network by meeting other law students and members of the bar;
2. Gain an understanding for how to best strategize and refine your educational and professional goals through practical approaches and tips from experienced attorneys;
3. Get an insider’s view of the scope and future of the legal profession and discover the secrets to finding your first legal job, internship or clerkship; and
4. Take home valuable tips and strategies for adjusting and thriving in the legal profession.

It is a huge honor to be asked to host this event, therefore attendance is strongly encouraged. If students have any questions, please contact Amber Reed who is not only the Vice President of the law school’s SBA but the American Bar Association 5th Circuit, Lt. Governor of Programming, Planning, and Initiatives. She can be reached at ahreed@johnmarshall.edu.
