Externship - Approved Placements

Judge Constance C. Russell - Fulton County Superior Court

Superior court is Georgia’s general jurisdiction trial court. The court has exclusive, constitutional authority over felony cases, divorce, equity and cases regarding title to land. The superior court corrects errors made by lower courts by issuing writs of certiorari; for some lower courts, the right to direct review by the superior court applies. Externs will work with the judge and the judge’s staff on a variety of tasks and assignments. Specifically, students will serve as a court baliff. They will observe and/or participate in the courts plea, arraignment and motions calendars, civil status conferences, and pre-trial proceedings. Students will also observe post-trial jury interviews. Interested students must submit a writing sample prior to their interview.
