Placement Description:
DeKalb County is one of the two counties in which the city of Atlanta lies, and is home to more that 700,000 residents.

The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office prosecutes more than 13,00 felony cases annually in the Superior Court of DeKalb County. The district attorney is responsible for supervising and training staff of approximately 50 attorney’s and more than 100 support personnel while administering a$13 million annual budget.

The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office works with local citizens, community leaders, and various volunteers to conduct crime prevention and intervention programs that address issues that are important to you and your neighbors. It is our belief that by working together we can improve the quality of life of DeKalb County and make our community a safer place for all to live.

Description of Student Work:
Students work under the supervision of an attorney, conducting investigations, interviewing witness and complainants, preparing cases for trial, and appearing in court as student prosecutors in felony cases. Work assignments will vary, but every effort will be made to give each student the opportunity to present motions and trial evidence before the court.

Student Preference:
3L’s and 3rd year practice are eligible to apply.

Course Requirements:
At least twice during the semester student participate in Grand Jury process. This occurs on Tuesdays and Thursdays every month.
