Pro Bono Outreach - Approved Placements

Civil Pro Bono Project

The Civil Pro Bono Family Law Project (CPB-FLP) mission is to ensure that the children of incarcerated mothers maintain a close relationship – such as visitation – during their mother’s incarceration. The mothers have access to civil legal information and attorneys to help them make the best decisions for their families and improve the quality of life of their children during their separation. CPB-FLP provides program participants with seminar training, direct legal services and access to relevant resources. Metro-area lawyers volunteer to represent incarcerated mothers in custody, guardianship, visitation, deprivation and termination of parental rights cases. CPB-FLP provides year-round training opportunities for currently enrolled law students. Under the supervision of the Legal Director, students respond to correspondence from incarcerated mothers, conduct legal research, and meet with the attorney volunteers to brainstorm cases. They also work with the Legal Director to prepare motions.
