Applicants are required to submit the following materials:

  1. A completed application via the internet at www.lsac.org;
  2. $50 application fee (non-refundable);
  3. Ensure a current LSDAS report is available for retrieval
  4. A typed personal statement setting forth those life experiences which have contributed to your personal development and which have prepared you to undertake successfully a rigorous program of law study;
  5. Two letters of reference from persons who know you well and who can attest to your capacity to succeed in the study of law; and
  6. Upon acceptance and prior to registration, an official transcript for all undergraduate, graduate, or professional study undertaken must be forwarded directly from the degree granting institution to the Office of Admissions




 

Transfer Students

Transfer students are those who have satisfactorily completed at least one year of law study at a law school approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) and are in good academic standing. Transfer applicants are required to submit:


  1. A completed application via the internet at www.lsac.org;
  2. $50.00 application fee (non-refundable);
  3. Two letters of recommendation, at least one of which should be from a law professor;
  4. Ensure a current LSDAS report is available for retrieval;
  5. A statement explaining the reasons for requesting transfer;
  6. official transcript of all prior law school work either directly to the law school or to the LSDAS;
  7. A letter of good academic standing from the appropriate law school official, which includes the applicant’s class standing;
  8. Upon acceptance, per section 305 (b)(2) of the Academic Code in the Student Handbook, transfer students must apply to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in writing by filing a petition for the requested transfer credits.
  9. Upon acceptance, and prior to registration, an official transcript for all undergraduate, graduate, or professional study undertaken, must be forwarded directly to the Office of Admission.

The credit allowed for prior law study is determined on a case-by-case basis. In no case, however, will transfer credit be granted for more than the total credits required in the first-year, full-time curriculum at John Marshall. Further, under no circumstances shall transfer credit be granted for prior law work in which the grade earned was less than that grade required for graduation, i.e. usually the grade of a “C”.

Visiting Students

Any law student who is currently attending an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school and is in good academic standing can apply as a non-matriculating or visiting student. Visiting students must have permission from the dean of their law school to take courses at JMLS. Applicants must submit the following materials:


  1. A completed application via the internet at www.lsac.org;
  2. $50.00 application fee (non-refundable);
  3. An official transcript of all prior law school coursework sent directly to the Office of Admissions;
  4. A letter of good standing from the home school clearly stating that credit for classes undertaken at JMLS will be applied to your degree at your home school.

Students requiring financial aid must apply for assistance through their home school (JMLS does not offer any financial aid to visiting students). The home school must initiate consortium agreements with our Office of Financial Aid. The home school will collect financial aid application forms and award students' financial aid. JMLS will act as a transfer agent only for disbursing funds to students.

International Applicants

Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to demonstrate a satisfactory level of proficiency in the use of the English language. An exception may be made for an applicant who has earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in the United States. Applicants for whom the TOEFL test is required should contact TOEFL online at www.ets.org or by phone at 609-921-9000 for information and application forms.


Applicants who attended undergraduate or graduate programs at foreign universities are required to take the LSAT and must register with either the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) JD Credential Assembly Service or with the World Education Service (WES) to have their foreign undergraduate and graduate transcripts evaluated. Additional information on these services can be obtained online at www.lsac.org and www.wes.org.

Audit Students

Audit student status is for practicing attorneys, working professionals, or others, interested in taking law school courses not for credit. Audit students do not have the right to take final exams or submit papers for grades. This status is reserved for anyone interested in learning more about a particular area of law for purposes other than receiving credit or a grade. To apply as an audit student, you must complete an audit application listing the course(s) of interest, submit a $50.00 application fee, a nd provide a written statement explaining why you are interested in auditing the particular course(s). Please note that JMLS students will be given first priority in class selection.

Reapplication

Students who previously attended Atlanta's John Marshall Law School and who have not been in attendance at the law school for more than one year must complete the admissions process in the same manner as any other applicant. To be eligible for readmission, the former student must meet all admissions standards applicable at the time of reapplication. It is essential that all time and all activities since the previous enrollment be accounted for in the new application.

Application Deadlines

The Law School accepts applications year round and does not have application deadlines; however, applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible in order to complete the admissions process in a timely manner and to ensure consideration prior to the class becoming full.

Acceptance Deposit

To secure a place in the entering class, accepted applicants for admission must pay a $500.00 non-refundable deposit payable in two equal installments. The deposit due dates will be noted within the acceptance letter. Seat deposits are credited to the student’s tuition account.

LSAT/LSDAS

All applicants are required to take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) and to have their test scores reported to the Law School. The score must be no more than five years old at the time an application is considered by the Admissions Committee. The LSAT is offered four times a year at numerous locations around the World. Registration materials for the test may be obtained by calling (215) 968-1001 or writing Law Services, Box 2000, 661 Penn Street, Newton, PA 18940-0098 or on the web at www.lsac.org.


www.lsac.org Applicants are required to register with the LSDAS to have test results and academic transcripts processed and sent to the Law School. The LSDAS supplies the Law school with a report that summarizes the applicant’s academic profile; LSAT score(s); copies of transcripts, writing samples and letters of recommendation. Applicants may contact Law Services directly by calling (215) 968-1001 or look on the Law Services website at www.lsac.org to check the status of their reports or to see when information was sent to Atlanta's John Marshall Law School.
