Atlanta's John Marshall Law School's Advocacy Program is comprised of intramural and interscholastic competitions in a variety of areas. In the Moot Court program, students hone their appellate brief writing and oral advocacy skills in national or state-wide competitions. In the Mock Trial program, competitors gain valuable experience trying mock criminal and civil cases before a jury or judge. Competitors make opening and closing statements, conduct direct and cross-examination of witnesses and make evidentiary objections and trial motions. Finally, students participate in a number of skills-based competitions in areas such as negotiation, client interviewing and counseling, and closing arguments. Since the inception of the Advocacy Program in Fall 2005, John Marshall teams have been recognized in state, regional, and national competitions.
