Dean’s Message:
I am pleased to announce that John Marshall students won the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event on April 13! Eric von Hacke, the president of the Litigation Society reports that a number of student organizations participated, including the Litigation Society, the Asian Law Student Association, the Black Law Student Association, our Georgia Association of Women Lawyers chapter, the Immigration Law Society, Phi Alpha Delta, the Latin American Law Student Association, the SBA and the Student Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. Thanks to everyone who was involved and Dean’s Awards to:
Viridiana Careon Christina Champagne Megan Hodgkiss
Lindsey Tidwell Erin Scott Anne Bowerman
Eric A. von Hacke Jordan Sullivan Ethan Williams
Wellington Tzou Joyce Adelugba Karen Kenner
Thanks to all who attended “Stump the Professor” last week. I was surrounded by rowdy, raucous, and unruly people, and those were just the faculty teams. I hope it becomes an annual event and generates funds for worthy causes like the Partnership Against Domestic Violence and Ahimsa House.
This is the last Dean’s Message of the year. The last big event on the law school calendar is Commencement at 1:30 p.m. on May 19, at the Atlanta Civic Center. It is a great day for the graduates and their families and friends, of course. We will recognize two Distinguished Alumni: Michael Moran and Judith Alembik. And, the Commencement Speaker will be, perhaps, the highest profile legal academic who has visited John Marshall: Harvard Professor Lawrence Lessig. http://www.law.harvard.edu/faculty/directory/index.html?id=888 Professor Lessig has also taught at Stanford and the University of Chicago. A long-time leading IP scholar, he now focuses on issues involving democracy and money in politics.
Good luck with finals!
Dean Lynn
